We recently held our gathering at MOJO and we're glad it has been a roaring success!
What a great night it had been been with 70+ kakis gathered for a time of catch up over a night of delicious aburi rolls, chicken yakitori, wines and beer.
We are thrilled by your enthusiasm and support. Many of you stayed way into the night!
More than that however, we are heartened by the friendships that were forged through Kakis. We began the app with an aim to connect people, an app focused on making like-minded friendships. Kakis speak about anything under the sun, be it interests, sports, or even jobs. Lunch, we thought was the best time of course, to fit the busy schedules of our working crowd. We are glad that the app has since evolved. Many of you meet outside lunch for activities, be it durian, drinks or jogging. Some of you have became great friends who look out for one another (saw you at the event!), while others have became business associates. We are glad to have achieved what we wanted to achieve and glad to have empowered friendships.
To the Kakis who were unable to join us at our community event, we missed you!
Meanwhile, Kakis has been working hard to make ourselves better. We are excited to share that a new round of in app features would be released in the last quarter of 2018. So stay tuned for our next community event! We hope to see you there.
To our next meet up, xoxo
It's been a while since you heard from us. Hope you guys are nailing 2018 so far! For us, Kakis turns four. The last three years were never easy, but your support made all things right. We wouldn't have made it without you and we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to YOU, the most important asset of our app.
Do come and join us on 5th April Thursday. There will be lots of fun, laughter and new friendships to be forged. Like we always say, the possibilities are endless. Hurry slots are limited, RSVP here

We know how awesome that once you joined the app, lunch requests and perkies keep flying in. But on the other hand, you get annoyed cause your phone keeps vibrating or alerting! Not to worry! We have this automated Smart Alerts feature that if you receive more than a combination of 5 lunch requests or perkies, the 6th onwards will be a silent notification. How cool is that!
You just have to remember to go into the app often if you are that popular :) Cause you may not want to miss out on the lunch requests. Like we always say, the opportunities are endless, you do not know who you will meet!
* Do note that the Smart Alerts do not apply to chat messages notification.
Being masterclass Kakis, we would like to share with you 4 tips on how to use Lunch Kaki more effectively. We are introducing new label filters and this will help you in getting a better response when sending out lunch requests.
1) Peeps, we know how the world is created. Just like how opposite poles attract in magnetic fields. But If we choose our status - Interested in "Friends Only", please do not expect anything more k? We are simply interested in meeting new friends and like minded peeps to increase our network of friends by sharing ideas and knowledge.
2) Yes, we know we created an awesome platform for people to network easily but if your intention is to sell or share something ultimately, please choose in your profile status - Interested in "Business Agenda".
3) Well we always say that the possibilities are endless. If you have no idea why you are here on Lunch Kaki probably you can choose- Interested in "Anything Goes" which means you are open to all kinds of possibilities.
4) Having mentioned the above 3 points, the last point would be - be honest and be yourself. If you have intentionally filled up the not-so-correct "Interested in" status, well, there's bound to be some cross-fire isn't it?
That's all peeps. Enjoy Lunch Kaki and help keep the community growing!

We all know there is a certain degree of butterflies in the tummy be it the first day at work if you are a newbie fresh grad who have just entered the work force, the intern who scored a job attachment or the experienced candidate we call it the "old bird".
Here are the 7 survival tips from the "been there done that" peeps to ensure a smooth transition.
1) Always recce your new work place prior to the first day of reporting at work. You might have already done so during the interviews, otherwise it will be good to plan your mode of transport and journey given the frequent train breakdowns or frantic searching of uber/grab promo codes in the morning. You do not want to be late on the first day!
2) Be nice and smile to all your new colleagues when you meet them 😃 Even though you might not be able to remember all their names. The immediate ones will be those siting around you. If you have a mentor/buddy to help you settle down that will be perfect.
3) Once you have settled on your desk, logon to your pc and settle all the admin stuffs. Usually there are a few credentials you need to use like your email, intranet, Hr matters and how to apply leave (yes yes , first day at work already thinking of how to apply leave)
4) Next, checkout the pantry and toilet. This is the time to take a breather after acting busy with your admin stuffs hehe. Make friends with the pantry auntie if there is or make yourself some hot drinks to perk yourself up for the rest of day.
5) Ask your superior/mentor if there is anything you can read on to familarise with the work that you be doing. Usually they will be busy as they have their own stuffs to attend to. You will be left alone and initiative takes up a big part in this area. Take note if you are joining in as manager or team lead roles, you need to be able to extract information quickly from your team mates and understand each of their roles and processes.
6) By this time, its probably everybody's favourite time. Lunch time! Usually there will be colleagues asking you to join them for lunch. Or you can initiate and ask who's going for lunch together. Its good to have the first few lunches with new colleagues as you try to blend in. You will get to know everybody better and able to see who can click with you.
7) In the unlikely event that you did not get to join anybody for lunch and do not want to eat alone. Fret not, this is what we are here for! Download Lunch Kaki, we have a growing community and we are sure you can find kakis to have meals with. Did we just say no more awkward moments? 😋

Its been a while since we last update this blog. Wondering where we went? Hahaha. We have been in hibernation for the past 5 months in some secluded mountains where we are rebuilding our app to bring you the best what Lunch Kaki can offer.
Since launching the app back in Nov 2014, responses have been mixed. There were 2 camp of thoughts. Some thought the idea was pretty cool, to be able to meet new friends during lunch time. While naysayers thought it was daunting or rather is there a need?
Fast forward to now, we are glad that we stick to our passion of connecting likeminded people where we strongly believe the possibilities are endless. Peeps use Lunch Kaki for everything, not only just lunch. It can meet all your needs in finding a Kaki such as breakfast, cafe hopping, dinner, beer, movie, gym or everything "Kaki". LOL
We are proud of what we are doing and we are sure you peeps benefited from it as well :D We want you to spread the joy of knowing new friends and share the exciting lunches or activities that you had with fellow Lunch Kakis by getting your friends to download our new app soon. Watch out for Lunch Kaki 2.0
The Possibilities Are Endless.

We had our first ever sponsored dinner event at one of BonAppetour's host. By 8.15pm, everybody arrived. Amrita (host) greeted us warmly just like catching up with old pals. Once inside, we made ourselves comfortable and each lunch kaki introduced themselves to one another as this was our first meeting too. We hit off so well that Amrita thought we were all friends.
Amrita asked: You guys just know each other? (with a surprised look when she found out)
One of us: Yeah, we just met today!
Amrita: How you guys managed to even come here for a dinner then? It's amazing.
One of us: All of us have something in common, we are all Lunch Kaki users. We joined a group function that was created for this dinner and here we are!
Amrita: What's that? Sounds interesting. I am not sure if I am correct, but I am guessing its some sort of a lunch thing?
One of us : You are half right, its actually a social networking app that allows people to find not only lunch buddies but also like minded individuals for meals and activities.
Amrita : Wow, didn't know such app existed haha. Let's start our dinner!
We moved up to the rooftop where we were going to have our sumptuous dinner. Amrita's place was on the 5th floor where they have a unblock view of the neighbourhood. The ambience was tranquil and sort of romantic haha.
Our 2 pretty lunch kakis, this was the only rooftop shots we had taken as the rest were not in good lighting conditions.
Shortly 10 minutes into the dinner, it rained unexpectedly. We had to make a hasty departure back to the living room. Just like any like minded individuals, all of us knew what to do helping each other grabbing the plates, drinks and bags etc.
This was the picture we took in the living room when we came down to continue our dinner.
Chapati with superb chicken curry
On average, each of us ate at least 4 pieces. This tells you how good it was.
This generous serving of biryani was cooked in a traditional pressure cooker from India which will emit a loud hissing sound during cooking. It had us all puzzled except Rohit which explained to us that was the norm lol.
We chatted happily over the food, there were debates on movies, whether star wars was worth the watch, about our jobs, the ups and downs. Rohit shared his journey on the rocky times after graduating with Masters and couldn't find a job easily. Now he is happily working in a MNC. He said " Now I will help whenever I can if I know any of my friends are looking for jobs, as I have been through the dark times. Its important to continue to know more friends and expand your network. " Dons't this sounds familiar? We can't agree more at Lunch Kaki :D
All good things had to come to an end, much as we want to stay on, it was already 11.30pm!
Wefie at the door with Amrita before leaving. All of the lunch kakis were being driven home by our own "uber" hee hee. Overall the experience was unique - good company, good food and good host! What more can we ask for? Till then.......
Team Lunch Kaki
Its the season of gifts and sharing. Everybody's favourite time of the year woohoo! The folks at BonAppetour and of course yours truly Lunch Kaki, have come together to bring you this awesome free rooftop dining experience to round up the end of 2015 and thank you peeps for the ardent support for our humble app.
It has been our vision to bring strangers together for meals and we are glad that we are able to do so at a total new level of social experience - eating with strangers at a local host's home whom you have not even met.
This is definitely not for the faint hearted nor the introvert. If you have always been the introvert, this is a great opportunity for you to convert the "IN" to "EX". Live the life you always dreamed of, go on and be the super social peep!
Hurry as slots are limited, 5 exclusive slots (3 ladies & 2 gentlemen) and there will be 1 mystery guest attending too, to spice things up a lil' more. All you need to do is to go into "Group Lunch" and join in the Xmas dinner group with Lunch Kaki logo to reserve your slot. You can check out the host's information and the location here
See you on 21st Dec then!

BonAppetour partners with Lunch Kaki to help you meet new people over lunch in Singapore!
In today’s world, there’s a slow but sure shift towards the concept of a sharing culture in which a regular person like your neighbour next door offers you a service and you either take it or leave it. Some of us aren’t very comfortable with this idea as we are all used to the certified “trusted” service providers but to be honest, there are very high rewards to be gained with just that small risk. BonAppetour is just one of the many examples!
Here at BonAppetour, we believe in a social way of dining where travellers can meet local hosts, wine and dine, and share stories over food. It’s a great way to enhance your travel experience – see the city through the eyes of a local!
Apart from BonAppetour, now there’s also Lunch Kaki, a social networking app which allows people to find someone to lunch with! All you need to do is send someone a lunch request or accept one. There are two kinds of lunch requests though. The first is a Last Minute Lunch in which you have a 10 minute availability time frame to organize a lunch meetup, and the second is a Random Lunch in which you plan a future lunch and wait for a successful match with others. If you’re rather sceptical about it, no harm bringing someone else along with you! It’s actually a great way to meet new people – just squeezing a meet up within a 40 minute break? You never know what could come out of it!
What we’d like to suggest is having a Random Lunch at a BonAppetour host family’s home! Bringing many people together for an authentic dining experience can open doors to interesting conversations and before you know it, the ice is broken and everyone’s comfortable with one another. After all, the more the merrier, but don’t forget to check the limit on the number of people which varies for every host.
So go out there and get out of your comfort zone. There are many possibilities waiting to be realized! Life could surprise you at the most unexpected of times. Don’t forget to download Lunch Kaki and perhaps, plan a meet at one of our dear host families’ home.

Didn't we tell you we love feedback. Oh yes you bet, and there are some interesting ones we love to share with you.
1) The Investigator
He will CSI your app and tell you every single detail about your app, your UX sucks, your execution poor, you app is full of bugs. In short, your app should not be launched and he thinks he can do better than that. LOL.
Our reply to this user: Hey there, we can't wait to try your app hee hee.
2) The Banner
When we say Banner, yeah literally it means he wants to ban everybody in the app thus The Banner. Reason? For flying aeroplane on the agreed lunch meetup.
Our reply to this user: Hey there, sure we will ban them for you :P
3) The Stalker
He complains that other location based apps can pinpoint the exact google locations within XX m while your app doesn't.
Our thoughts to this user: Hmm, why do you want to track exactly where the users are?
4) The Wisher
He wishes that there is a super premium function that will enable him to know all the gals in the app and guarantees him a lunch meetup with every single of them.
Our reply to this user: Hey there, cool suggestion. We will look into it and possibly that will cost alot of $. Do you still want it?
5) The Crasher
He is a user in the app, uses the app like a pro and feedback to you. "Hey why don't I get any matches and why can't I swipe left or right?"
Our reply to this user: Yo dude, this is Lunch Kaki, errrrr not Tinder. :)

Food is not just food. Your serving of meat pie or phad thai has the power to transport you to places as far away as England or Thailand. Similarly, lunch is not just lunch. Your mid-day meal feeds the soul, nourishes the mind, strengthens the body, and sets the stage for good company and great conversation.
There is so much to gain from a well eaten lunch. Here's how to get started:
Step 3 is the trickiest to bring about. Time is short and sometimes, it takes a while to move beyond superficial topics like politics, sports, or the weather. That’s where the smol tok card game will come in handy. smol tok is not small talk. Each pack contains 60 meaningful questions that will stimulate the sharing of personal stories and anecdotes – the stuff of life that gives it flavour.
Play a card or two with your lunch kakis and practice the art of meaningful conversation. The smol tok card game is available on www.starknicked.com at $30.70 (inclusive of delivery) with the promocode kakis.

The word ‘lunch’ is theorised to have its origins in an Anglo-Saxon term ‘nuncheon‘, which essentially meant a quick midday snack a labourer could hold in his hands. Throughout and after the Industrial Revolution, the idea of ‘lunch’ was reshaped and soon defined by working hours. Workers had to have a substantial meal at noon to last the day.
At some part of our everyday life, no matter who we are and what we do, we’re going through the motions. Today, the lunch hour, to some, means a break from sitting in the office, but to many, it means a quick 10-minute desktop meal. With the weather in Singapore being scorching hot and with never-ending deadlines haunting us through mealtime, we tend to visit the same places for food, and god forbid, we choose between the same few menu options.
But I’m here to let you in on a little tip: your daily lunch hour doesn’t have to revolve around a thoroughly exhausted routine. Your one-hour break can be rather exciting – even rewarding – when you try your hand at something different.
Make your own lunch
The first thing that comes to mind when you think about substitutes to everyday trips to oily, fattening hawker centre lunch is to have your very own lunch box. Gordon Ramsay has, in many ways, reiterated the simplicity of home-cooking, from 3-minute YouTube tutorials on making the best steak sandwiches to elegant fuss-free cooking methods. If you haven’t tried your hand at assembling a sandwich or firing up a fettuccine, give it a shot and you may find yourself wanting to compete for the next season of MasterChef Asia.
So the next time you grow tired of chicken rice and fried fish soup, here’s a little online recipe archive for you to check out: Thug Kitchen. Note: even if you’re not down to make your own shit, this makes a hilarious, entertaining read.
Also, be careful in the kitchen, guys. Because:
Text an ex (or don’t.)
This certainly doesn’t sound like a bad idea when you’re bored (or drunk, if you’re an alcoholic by any chance). Exes have a way of creeping back into our minds when we’re high and dry off boredom and routine – a flashback to good times and we’re set thinking for an hour.
So if you’re a closet masochist or if you’re having a bit of a dry spell, sure, go ahead and text your exes. You may even rekindle a long-lost friendship that both you and your ex have been wishing for. But don’t say I didn’t warn you – there’s a 50% chance you might end up feeling like this:
Plan a vacation
The word “vacation” is like a magic word to giving anyone a mental boner – even if it’s just a weekend out in a city that looks EXACTLY like Singapore, we’re down for it. Cameron Diaz agrees:
Lunch time is perfect to think about your vacation, even if it’s a distant dream.
Handwrite thank you notes to all your loved ones
This is one that is closest to heart. In a cut-throat office environment, we’re prone to taking our loved ones for granted – when was the last time you’ve shown gratitude when your mom and dad were overly concerned about you and asked about your long day at work?
Take your one-hour break at work to think about the sacrifices your loved ones have made for you, and respond to that with a short handwritten personal note.
Flip open Lunch Kaki
Lunch Kaki is an awesome platform to meet like-minded people. Taking the identity of a social networking app, Lunch Kaki sees the lunch hour as the ‘golden hour’ – users can now socialise over lunch without needing to commit to an awkward conversation over dinner.
So you can have less of this:
And less of this:
And way more of this:
Lunch Kaki also has two unique features: Last Minute Lunch and Random Lunch. Last Minute Lunch lets you find last-minute lunch partner within a vastly short timeframe of just 10 minutes. Random Lunch is a feature where users schedule a future lunch – basically functioning as a virtual tavern for adventurous individuals to come together for a quick, hassle-free lunch meet-up.
Be it meeting new people for job opportunities, new friends or new kakis, Lunch Kaki has got you covered.

Indonesia, here we come! With an invitiation to Compfest7 happening at Universitas Indonesia, the LK team set off to the quieter town of Depok on an early Friday morning.
We went prepared with interesting games to engage the young Indonesian university audience, ideas which we brainstormed several days before the event, even meticulously creating our very own DIY Lunch Kaki game props! #patonourbacks
The university itself is a juxtapostion of old and new, with a swanky new building and old world hall separated by a surreal gleaming lake at our event place. Really quite un-Indonesian to be honest, haha.
The main stage, and our booth, at Playground event hall. Simple but with prime location next to the entrance, yeah!
The first event day was almost bootcamp-like, where we went without much water and food, which we aptly termed as "shag-athon". One game highlight was our Perkies Match game, where we tranported the students back to good old simple days where they need to match 6 sets of perkies (our own version of sunshine to perk up someone's day). It was absolutely gratifying when we saw how the students enjoyed the game, with lots of laughter, fun and cheers at our booth, stress included. :P Our in-house paparazzi managed to capture some priceless #fml, #didimakeit, #cantbelieveit, and #imadeit moments. Totally hilarious! :)
Cultural Difference #101. Many Indonesian audience were tickled by our name, as "Kaki" means feet in the local langauge. Obviously lunch and feet isnt exactly an enticing combination, haha. This, we already are aware, and deliberation WIP. Countless of #eureka #orh, #ah, #oh moments when we shared that it actually means "Buddy" and "Friend" in colloquial terms in Singapore and Malaysia. Some very creative students even thought we were a food delivery service app! #Flashback - in our last TechInAsia event, an Israeli came laughing to our booth. "Kaki" apparently means excrement or literally "s***" in their language. Zzzzz. Cant help it but "Bluebird", the Indonesian transport operator comes to mind :P
We had a wonderful time during the 2day event, having fun interacting with the students and getting first hand response. A #shoutout to all Indonesians (university students or working community alike) - Go download the app and get the communities going!
BIG hugs to the UI students and till the next Indonesian event! Glad we all had tons of fun!
PS: sorry we arent able to feature all who visited our booth and joined in the fun.

Just want to share an encounter that I met through Lunch Kaki. I was travelling in Shanghai for a work trip. Feeling bored and lonely, I decided to turn on Lunch Kaki which I use it regularly in Singapore. Neither did I expect to see this user who was 8km away. So I decided to send her lunch request on 14 Sept. I shall call this user "P"
To my surprise, "P" accepted my lunch request on 15 Sept and she was spontaneous and friendly. Immediately we clicked through the chat conversation and arranged to meet that night. We arranged to meet at a hotel near where I stayed as she was more familiar with Shanghai. When I met her at the lobby, there weren't any awkward moments at all. We chatted like old pals perhaps that has something to do with both our personality.
She brought me to this place call No.3 Bar which has good vibes, being under the radar and away from touristy commercial bars. We talked about anything under the sun, debated on government issues (post election debrief :P) , drank our whiskies and shared our life experiences. I admired her courage and maturity having to take on the responsibility of carrying on her family business. Doing business in China has never been easy, she has paid her fair share of dues and drank countless litres of alcohol. She has somehow taught me an inspiration that "there are only things you do not want to do, no such things as you can't do"
Happy times went by quickly and sadly all good things have to come to an end. We had to call it a day as she had to work the next day. She sent me back in Uber (she swear by it). Within 3 minutes, a black BMW 5 series arrived. Taxis are hard to get in Shanghai by the way. I can see why taxi apps such as Didi and Uber are in hot demand!
It was my most random experience in using Lunch Kaki till date and the encounter was totally amazing. Me and "P" would definitely continue our friendship when she is back in Singapore.
If you ask will I use Lunch Kaki again when I am abroad? Definitely a yes. Who knows what will happen, never know what to expect, whom you will meet etc. I shall quote a slogan from Lunch Kaki "Go on send a lunch request, the possibilities are endless." Till then..... !
Team Lunch Kaki
Hey Maxis you guys are definitely right! "no awkward FFK" moments grin emoticon Say good bye to lonely lunches!
